Independence Day

I would like to to congratulate my friends and readers in the US on their Independence Day. Happy 4th of July everyone ! This is a wonderful achievement and sometimes we forget that America was also a colony too. ...Here is a little background info. I enjoyed reading the Charter of the Declaration of Independence very much.

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the world on their respective independence days and also to talk a little about Libya's struggle for independence, until 24th December 1951.

Here is a little historical walk through the events leading up to it .

'As Europe prepared for war, Libyan nationalists at home and in exile perceived
that the best chance for liberation from colonial domination lay in Italy's
defeat in a larger conflict [..]
Libyan political leaders met in Alexandria,
Egypt, in October to resolve past differences in the interest of future unity.
Idris was accepted as leader of the nationalist cause by Tripolitanians as well
as Cyrenaicans [..]
The Libyan Arab Force, better known as the Sanusi Army,
served with distinction under British command through the campaigns of the
desert war that ended in the liberation of Cyrenaica.
In a speech in the
House of Commons in January 1942, British Foreign Minister Anthony Eden
acknowledged and welcomed "the contribution which Sayid Idris as Sanusi and his
followers have made and are making" to the Allied war effort '.

Here are some Libyan heros , and wikipedia for basic knowledge .

"By 1947 Italy had relinquished all claims to Libya and two years later a UN General Assembly resolution was approved, which granted Libyan independence. This became effective in 1951 and the country became known as the United Kingdom of Libya. "

However, we celebrate today the 1st of September 1969 as our national day. On that Day King Idris who had became politcally weak in the last years and too accomodating to foreign companies in Libya was overthrown bloodlessly. It is the day of the El-Fateh Revolution which despite a lot of setbacks also brought many good things to the Libyan people initially.

For God’s sake, what the good things the Black September brought to the Libyans?? Except destruction, corruption, malfunction, brutality, the list is so long.

Thank you, Highlander!

Hey Highlander :) thanks it was refreshing to see your good wishes. We did some fun stuff day to celebrate.

Too bad some people were left behind in the East coast and the West Coast to see the launching of the space shuttle "Discover: :)

Thanks to Farouk El-Baz Egyptian-American and others for making Nasa what it is :) I guess in the race of who is the more senior American in this country El-Baz would be the father of all Americans heheheeee

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farouk_El-Baz

And Ahmed Zewil the Muslim Egyptian

http://www.zewail.caltech.edu/biography/index.html

That what happens to people who thinks they are more Americans than others LOL

Knock it off with the cheap shots, Twosret. You have requested that I don't address any comments to you. Keep the insults to yourself if you wish me to respect your wishes.

BTW. You aren't American. Nor is your name Farouk El-Baz. Or Ahmed Zewil. Nor are you related to them (are you?) so what in the hell is your point?

*rolling her eyes* I respect Highlander enough not to start a fight on her blog. My post included a lot of smiley faces and heheheeee. Anyway my last word is

WHATEVER!

My 4th of July has been so good and full of great events, I won't waste it over a shouting match.

Little late for second thoughts, isn't it? You owe me more apologies than I can count. I've stopped expecting them, and I've stopped being interesting in engaging you in discussions. If you don't want to start fights with me, then don't start fights with me. Can't you get all that hostility out of your system beating up Jews on Sandmonkey's blog?

This whole argument between Craig and Twosret is really quite sad.

From what I saw, it seemed like this thing started a few weeks ago as a misunderstanding, where one person perceived an insult from the other one, where an insult was not intended. Then, that person responded with a real insult, causing the other to come up with a worse insult, and so on and so forth, back and forth like some sort of sadistic tennis game. And, now that Craig and Twosret have been at it for a few weeks, both of them have their egos bruised by the other's insults, and are furious at the other because of it. What is sad about the situation is that Craig and Twosret were friends before this whole thing started.

To Craig and Twosret, a few things I would really suggest you give some thought to:

1. It is okay for friends to disagree on things. No two people agree with each other all the time.

2. When people are upset, they sometimes say things they would not otherwise say. Sometimes, if someone says something to you in anger, it's best to let it pass.

3. It is possible to insult someone unintentionally. And, when you are from different cultural backgrounds, the likelihood of doing this increases greatly.

4. If you don't respond to an insult with another insult, you'll never get into a tit-for-tat cycle like this. And, if you apply this logic now, this current cycle of insults will stop.

5. Ad-hominem (attacking the messenger, not the message)arguments are best avoided. It's best to debate the issue at hand without trying to pick apart the person you're debating with.

What is ironic is that this whole fight started in a debate about Israel and the Palestinians, and the tit-for-tat fight that has ensued seems to emulate the situation there well: both sides think the other side is guilty, and they are innocent, when in reality both sides have caused suffering for the other.

I really hope you two are able to make peace with each other.

Mad canuck,

You are so kind thank you so much :) didn't think anyone noticed :)

Craig I think u have some issues, u seem to get into fights and arguments with everyone u interact with.

Really? Is there anybody, on any blog, that you ahve never NOT had a problem with, LibyanWarrior? You are about the last guy I would take advice from about getting along with people. You spit on virtually everyone you come in contact with. Even our hostess on this blog.

I do not think Twosret( I am a huge fab by the way.lol) is the problem

Part of the problem I have with Twosret, is that she endorses and praises the hateful statements of people like you. The other problem I have with Twosret is that she says things to me that I consider to be offensive, and stands by them even after I tell her that I am personally offended by what she said. That's not the behavior I expect from my friends.

Mad Canuck, I apprecaite your efforts at peacemaking, but I turned the other cheeck for a couple weeks because of the friendship I felt for Twosret. All it bought me was more abuse. I expect hate and bigotry from LibyanWarrior. I also expect it from Twosret, now. Twosret just adds smileys to disguise it. Only difference I can see.

Hi Craig:

I should have added point #6 - "don't feed the trolls."

Several blogs that talk about issues related to the Middle East seem to have a real problem with trolls: people who wade into the debate, trying not to prove a point, but just to try to make other people angry so they can get a good laugh. Trolls do this out of the same reason bullies in the school playground call other kids names to try to make them cry. They want a source of entertainment at someone else's expense. Don't be that someone else; don't let a troll goad you into being angry and losing your cool.

In his comment here, LW is being a troll - if you look at his comment, each word and each sentence is a calculated attempt to make you angry. Don't fall for it.

Part of the problem I have with Twosret, is that she endorses and praises the hateful statements of people like you.

Just because a troll is arguing the same point as one of your friends doesn't mean your friend is standing with the troll. And, just because a troll expounds on a point your friend first made doesn't mean your friend is standing with the troll either.

The other problem I have with Twosret is that she says things to me that I consider to be offensive, and stands by them even after I tell her that I am personally offended by what she said.

If you don't mind me saying, both you and Twosret have been bouncing these insults back and forth for some time now. It's hard to even figure out where it all started or who started it.

What I'd suggest is a simple apology - from both of you. You (Craig) apologize for anything you said to Twosret that may have insulted her, and you (Twosret) apologize for anything you said to Craig that may have insulted him. Then, you both just put this whole thing to rest.

Friendships are valuable, and I would hate to see you and Twosret squander yours over something like this. You and Twosret may never agree on some issues, but that does not mean you can't still be friends.

Hi MAd Canuck , nice to see you here , hope you had a nice day off celebrating, thanks for your constructive argument and we hope that 'the river will flow back again in its bed' as the Arabic proverb says i.e. that things can be mended re. Craig and Twosret. hmm this proverb sounds corny when translated into English ... but I'm leaving it anyway as it goes with NBA's comment :)
