Autumn is here

Yesterday it rained quite hard and I realised that Autumn has sneaked in without my actually going to the beach. Today it is raining hard and there is even thunder... definetely an early Autumn .

How strange, it's raining hard here in Florida as well, all day long. But I have hit the beach several times this summer, and probably will a few times more before the temps cool down. Better get out there while you can!

Hi Tater problem is I don't like to swim when it's raining because the colour of the sea changes and I can't see the sand at the bottom or the fish. I'm sure we're going to have some more sunny days. I'll get to go to the beach at least once with all the family , cousins , second cousins and the whole gang :)

One more thing , when I was 18 I wanted to be a military pilot - apparently I was too thin for the job he he he . I still have a soft spot for aviation ;)

I didn't actually mean that you should go in the rain, that would be no fun. But am sure there'll be a few more sunny days before the temperature cools off to go swimming. I obviously never lived in Libya, but I did live in Egypt for a year, about 60km south of Alexandria. I was surprised at how cool the temperature got in winter there, somehow thought it stayed warm in N Africa year round. Too many Tarzan movies in my youth I guess ;-) Enjoyed my time in N Africa, wish the relationship between our countries had warmed up earlier, would have been fun to visit there while I was so close.

Oh, btw, glad you like aviation, obviously a passion of mine as well. Do they have lady pilots in the Libyan AF? I don't know of any ME country that does and would be impressed if Libya does.

Cheers and have a fun day at the beach!!

Yep we have female AF pilots since the 80s, which was very radical as you know for an Arab and Muslim country. We also had female officers and infantry since the late 70s at least.
I don't know if I can dig the photo of the first Libyan female pilot from my scrapbook unless my mother has thrown away all my stuff. They drove Mig jets here an the Mirage if I recall - no F16 for us ;)

So you like Egypt ? I'm sure you'll love Libya, try and come on a vacation when you are done with your tour in Iraq.

Thanks for the wishes re.the beach.

Wow, I'm impressed Highlander! Not about the female pilots so much as the female infantry! I'm pretty sure women are still excluded from ground combat MOS's here in the US still.

Have fun at the Beach, I bet your water is beautiful in the summer. We have fantastic beaches in southern California, but the water is cold and kind of murky. I think we have cold water currents coming from North to South. The East Coast Atlantic beaches have warm water, but the beaches (and the waves) are pretty lame.

I gotta move to Maui. They have it all in Hawaii.

Don't worry LW, we just want your women! We don't mean any harm. You can go marry an anglo woman, since you like anglos so much :P

Wow Highlander, a desire for a trip to the beach and you destroyed (according to LW) your whole country! Who knew the beach could be so dangerous!!!

LOL, don't know LW, but he seems a troubled young man; good news is most young men eventually grow up.

Had no idea Libya had lady pilots for over 20 years, that's longer than we've had them here in the USA. I'm impressed

Yes I really did enjoy my time in the ME, have been there many, many times, and stationed in several ME countries. Might take you up on the offer to see Libya, as that's one of the few I've never been to.

Oh I'm not in Iraq now, that photo of the F-16 is me on my last combat tour there a few years ago. Now alas, I'm flying a desk in Florida USA, 'fraid I've gotten to old to fly fighters anymore. That's a young man's sport, which I, am unfortunately, not :-(

Cheers

I think it's called "Attention Deficit Disorder" or some such politically correct crap. What they used to call "Hyperactivity" - that's my guess anyway. But I don't really crae, because it's no excuse for him to be an abusive jerk.

Programmer_Craig & Tater I must say about the infantry and officers that I'm not really sured if they had desk jobs or real field jobs ( aka have been deployed), but the female soldiers did graduate from the military academy till the mid-80s at least.

Yes the water is indeed beautiful and very clear in the summer, and today is very hot and very humid. I'm hoping to go at least once to the beach before Ramadan. I'm really afraid of murky water and in late Spetembre the algae start being thrown out at the beach and I don't like that.

Alank , I remember you had a nice week of very hot summer this July when I was in London.

Redenclave , thanks I'm trying to be weened from Windows believe me it is scary lol ;)

Tater, interesting that you have been to so many ME countries, do you speak Arabic by any chance ? and how old is too old to fly ;)

Real Libyan , about LW it's ok I am used to him by now. Rabi iydih inshallah .

LW - not sure what is your point- you wish to talk about berbers and arabs ? make a post about it on your blog . I like you very much , but I'm tired of defending your actions to everyone . All my readers and myself have been insulted already. I'm afraid I will have to delete your last comment.

Highlander,

Speak a smattering of Arabic, but losing my abilities rapidly as its almost unheard of here in the States. Never had any formal training though so can't write/read a word in Arabic. That's unfortunate as formal education in Arabic would have been a tremendous help to me during my time there. I've actually thought of going back to school to learn Arabic, as it would be a great asset to have for a follow-on career. Am due to retire from the military in a couple of years and am considering a career in our diplomatic corps over in the ME. Already have lots of experience there, and all the security clearances so with a little study in Arabic language I think my chances would be excellent--Inshalla. Plus it'd be fun/interesting to me.

I'm in my late 40s, and few fighter pilots fly past their mid 40s. Mostly only Generals get to do that, and that's mostly for show, they'd never get to fly in combat. But I have no complaints, flew for over 20 years, now time to let the youngster have their time in the sun--GIVES ME MORE TIME FOR THE BEACH!!!

Have enjoyed our conversation,
Cheers

Tater and Highlander, I've enjoyed your conversation too. Almost makes me think there's hope for world peace :)

Tater , a 'smathering of Arabic' eh ? I'm betting you are going to have a wonderful career in the diplomatic corps, maybe you get to be sent to Libya too one day ( but you still have to visit first ;) ) .

Programmer_Craig :) - Tater is a joy to converse with and I hope he is not discouraged by the occasional hiccups on my blog. I do know he is a fan though :)
