An initiative has been launched on Facebook to commemorate the heroes and heroines of Libya, from 1969 till the end of the war of 2011.
This definition includes the fallen martyrs, the injured, the imprisoned and of course the missing.
Great idea to celebrate and honour these people's sacrifices ! However, where do our raped women stand? they have sacrificed too for Libya and their blood is just as precious and should not go in vain.
Males have been raped too, but females have it harder and are unable to reintegrate into society ( if they have survived the experience).
We need to acknowledge their sacrifice and give them medals of honour too! This would be one step towards helping remove the wrong stigma associated with 'dishonour and/or loss of virginity' which was absolutely none of their fault.

Many victims have been young, fertile women. And I guess they didn't have Escapelle close at hand. What happens to those who became pregnant?
Great point Highlander, why not put pressure on the creators of the group to expand the definition?
I hate to see women put on the back-burner. Women always have it harder than men and its a shame that they've been equally hurt and abused as men during this revolution yet are not given as much attention.
and I'm still fuming over the 10% quota
Maya - I still have not met one raped woman but only a few who had been in prison. It has been dealt with in a number of ways-ranging from honour killing, to imprisoning at home, to marrying off in another country,to divorce if this was a married woman this is what I heard and this is unacceptable!
No Escapelle, some are being treated for shock and STD -sigh
Smokey long time no see, some people are working on that but the resistance is enormous !
Lebeeya don't fume act :P what are you doing about the 10% quota ?
how enormous and what form does it take?
Smokey, such as destruction of incriminating evidence specifically in the cities most affected and sweeping all this under the carped by any authority on the basis that this is a 'conservative' country etc...
