Internet Addiction

My mother who has lost hope of marrying me off to some nice guy and my friends and family, suspect I have a hopeless case of internetus addictimus.

See following symptoms from Wikipedia :

"-A need for markedly increased amounts of time on Internet to achieve satisfaction.
-Markedly diminished effect with continued use of the same amount of time on Internet.
Withdrawal, as manifested by either A or B below:
(A) the characteristic withdrawal syndrome, 1, 2 and 3 below
Cessation of (or reduction) in Internet use that has been heavy and prolonged.
Two (or more) of the following, developing within several days to a month after Criterion:
(a) psychomotor agitation
(b) anxiety
(c) obsessive thinking about what is happening on the Internet
(d) fantasies or dreams about the Internet
(e) voluntary or involuntary typing movements of the fingers
The symptoms in Criterion 2 cause distress or impairment in social, occupational or another important area of functioning
(B) Use of Internet or a similar on-line service is engaged in to relieve or avoid withdrawal symptoms.
Internet is often accessed more often or for longer periods of time than was intended.
There is a persistent desire or unsuccessful efforts to cut down or control Internet use.
A great deal of time is spent in activities related to Internet use (for example, buying Internet books, trying out new WWW browsers, researching Internet vendors, organizing files of downloaded materials).
Important family, social, occupational, or recreational activities are given up or reduced in duration and/or frequency because of Internet use.
Internet use is continued despite knowledge of having a persistent or recurrent physical, family, social, occupational, or psychological problem that is likely to have been caused or exacerbated by Internet use (for example, sleep deprivation, marital difficulties, lateness for early morning appointments, neglect of occupational duties, or feelings of abandonment in significant others)."

Mum blames the internet and computer technology for me being single, and even if this is solved , she thinks I'll end up this (below) way .....would that not be boring ?

Are you an internet addict ? check it out here . I think I'm a hopeless case ;)

lybianwarrior you are soooooo funny!

Highlander, don't worry, Mr Right will come along - don't settle for anything less then the best. As long as you are happy nothing else matters. This Libyan habit of pushing people to get married is rediculous. I've got people coming asking for my 15 year old daughter and when I tell them she's way too young to even think about they try to find all kinds of ways to convince me I should let her go. They must be insane!

Having an internet jones is tough, but I think a fix can be soon arranged, don't you? :-)

Hallo Highlander,

It has been some since I last commented. I was out in Africa for a month where I had little access to Internet. I felt the ''withdrawal'' symptoms in terms of worrying about missed mail and not reading my favorite blogs. However, I felt better afterwards specially taking myself out of negative news and views. By the time I returned to Germany, I was healed and did not give a thought. I then checked my mail and found almost 200 mail messages with several warning me if I don't reply. Little by little, I am back to my Internet habits.

It is funny that I've read a post by Sandmonkey about his mother urging him to get married. She even went further than your mother, offering to choose the girl as well.
So why don't you two marry, just to make your mothers happy :-). (Mothers often seem to think this is the main function of children).

I'm a mother and I don't suffer from such a disease. It's because we want to see you settled down with families of your own. This is a lifetime decision and you should never be pushed into a situation without you wanting it. I have daughters and am happy having them still in our nest. It's difficult to find somebody worthy of your own kids. Anybody blogging a matchmaking Libyan Blog ?????

Libyanwarrior , the guys arent' turning me down ;) none have YET passed the rigorous testing I've put them through, in other words they have failed miserably LOL.

Khadijateri , I agree I am not going 'to fast and then eat an onion' ( translation for Arab proverb), I'd rather stay at home , my life is pretty good like this :).
Gatorbait as always you are so hilarious :)Thanks.
Egyptian in Germany welcome back I'm glad you had a good trip my friend and that you shared some of it with us here.

Tarhooni ( Tarek), MASK ? where did you dig that up from ? knowing your mum I'm sure she won't rest until you are in the 'kusha'.
Trabilsia , I agree with you , actually my mother never complains or asks me to do anything about marriage but she stills thinks that my internet addiction is preventing me from going out there and meeting wonderful guys in real life lol. Re a dating site for Libyans ..hmm seriously maybe we should do something about it ? NBA would volunteer I'm sure
