Nuclear Korea (updated)
It's refreshing to check the news and not find the ME on the front page from time to time.
The media is busy with the latest 'surprise' from North Korea.
I'm not really surprised ALL these comments reflect my thoughts ( courtesy of the BBC)
" nuclear North Korea or a nuclear Iran is no more dangerous than the nuclear Pakistan where there are many terrorist organizations. A well-armed nuclear country like the US, Russia or China has no right to ask another country not to go nuclear. Iran and N. Korea are really afraid of the self-righteous and very belligerent America. Sanctions would be counter productive. Why does Bush administration refuse to talk directly to the N. Koreans?"
C.M Ramakrishna, Cherry Hill, NJ, USA
"So what if NK conducted a test? It was clear already they posessed nuclear weapons. The outcry seems a little late. And pointless as well. If the USA and UK are allowed to reign terror down on Afghans and Iraqi's, they are in no position to complain. Furthermore, they have helped push NK to this point, by establishing a precedent of pre-emptive strikes against weaker nations. This is the reason that NK and Iran feel the need to arm themselves in the first place. We would do the same."
Rory Morty, Giessen, Germany
"Now North Korea has tested nuclear weapon still US considering imposing sanctions. Iraq didnt have any WMD and US imposed a war. Its mean if Iraq had any WMD then US would have never gone to war. I think North Korea has the right to develop any technology for its security because this world is full of double standards..."
Raheel Sajjad, Karachi, Pakistan
"It seems so simple to claim that North Korea has the right to have nuclear bombs to defend itself, but is that to defend the people of North Korea or it's current leader? Given the fact that he has little regard for the life of his own people, how can you place your faith in him caring about those in other nations.Pls take off the anti-american blinkers for a second and actually look at the situation and it's effect on N.Koreans and the neighbouring region. China has realised this too late."
Barrie, London
Now if you want more intringue there is also the American ( or more precisely , the Rumsfeld connection. Fascinating this guy has his hand in every nasty pie in the world :P if this is true.

"Bush committed to diplomacy ...", where was it in Iraq ?

Still lurking in the old memories brought by the previous chain of comments - I am happy that our Communist dictator Todor Zhivkov didn't supply Bulgaria with nuclear weapons. Had he done this, I'm sure we still wouldn't have freedom (including the right to leave the country), democracy and market economy, and our Muslim fellow citizens still wouldn't have their names. But we would have blackouts, food shortages, secret police eavesdropping everywhere and the Belene concentration camp.
It is high time for the free world to stop the blackmail by crazy countries going nuclear and to crush their ambitions by force. You ask how to recognize the crazy countries? Everybody knows them. But if somebody has doubts about some country, it's best to ask its citizens.
North Korea is a perfect example why preemptive military action is a "must" when you deal with nutters aspiring nuclear weapons.
Once they have nuclear weapons it's too late - there is little you can do without risking a full-blown nuclear war. At best these cretins can now hold the world to ransome.
Do arabs really find the prospect of neclear holocaust so appealing, Highlander?
I'm not really so anxious for you to die, my dear. I like you a lot. Why is it that you think crazy people with nuclear weapons is a good idea!?
Kingo. your comments are uninteresting.
I blame all this on the French. They killed NATO in 2003, in favor of the European Union. Well, nobody takes the EUropean Union seriously. Oh well. People did take NATO seriously, but they don't anymore, because the NATO alliance is broken.
Europeans, you're on your own. I wish you luck with Russia and your Lslamist problem.
The US has bigger fish to fry now. Turns out the war on terror was just an annoying diversion. I think as we've all known for some time, the next big war is versus China and it's allies of convenience. (Russia, North Korea, Iran, whatever)
There needs to be a Pacific Rim alliance. US, Japan, South Korea, Phillipines, Taiwan and anybody else who doesn't want to get swallowed up by China. Maybe we can throw India in as well even though India isn't on the Pacific Rim... India's loyalties are suspect re: Iran, but it is no ally of China or Pakistan, which is what really counts. Nukes for everybody. Massive military buildup for everybody. (the conventional arms are top pop the arab Islamists if they get in the way, sorry Highlander but that's the way it is, your global prominance is over now)
North Korea may need to be destroyed though. And I actually cannot believe I am becoming a proponent of nuclear war. Anybody who knows me would find that quite shocking. But I actually do think that North Korea should be destoyed with a nuclear first strike. Now. Before it's too late.
And then we can see what Pakistan wants to do with it's nukes, and what Iran wants to do with it's nuke program.
Israel can have nuclear weapons. The US can have nuclear weapons but Korea or the Arab world Oh NO!!! God forbid!

Look at how many people have been killed, how many cities have been destroyed, how many nations are in ruin, how many lives you have destroyed, how much money has been wasted, OVER WHAT?
Some silly threat which you find "annoying". You admited it you never found the rag tag, bearded men who lived in caves, who ate with their hands, and hagled about the Islamic way to sell a goat even slighty scary did you?
It was prejuidice. Hatred for us
because we are muslims.
North Korea can have nuclear weapons, no problem. As long as China annexes North Korea and takes custody of them. China is a Communist Country that has had nuclear weapons for decades, and it can be trusted to maintain the same stance it has in the past. North Korea cannot be trusted for anything at all. It's a country run by lunatics, and desperate lunatics at that. The Government of North Korea demonstrated it did have working nuclear weapons and then the very NEXT DAY threatened to launch a nuclear missile at another country. It's insanity, I tell you. China taking over North Korea is the best solution for everyone, including the miserable starving North Korean people. They've been living on charity for 30 years anyway. It's a failed state.
Come to think of it, if worst comes to worst we could quietly let it be known we wouldn't have any objection to China annexing Iran, too. China is going to need to go to war over oil soon anyway, may as well solve the issue of terrorist nukes at the same time.
King of Los Angeles,
The axis of Evil as per January 2001 was IRAQ, NORTH KOREA, IRAN.
One down. Two to go.
The bearded guy didn't make the cut. Sorry.
I agree whole heartedly with the German. As well as with the first commenter. The US has shown a total lack of respect to the NK nation and peoples. After Japan, no one can look at the United states as a responsible nation. Only as a violent agressive genocidal nation. The US has always had it out for NK, and after the illegal invasion of Iraq, its the only rational thing NK, Iran, and the rest of the world can do is, develop nuclear weapons. i consider these nations as the defenders of peace. These nations are acumulating Nuclear Arms so they can keep a country who has actually used them in check. I belive it to be especially smart of the North Koreans to engage these tests, after the Bombing of Lebonan by Israel with US weaponary, a nation with which the US has never had a problem with, a nation which is very secualr progressive and Pro-Western was bombed for a small incident by a few criminals on the border?
Then by all means what are they going to do with a Nation who they have it out for?
Its very smart for NK.
As far as that last Commenter Berry, he should note that their where 1000's of US citzens in lebonan when the US shipped weaponary to bombard it. As far as the whole love ad respect for its people the US is by no means the beakon of freedom its propogates itself to be. 1000's of Americans have been arrested in the war onterror a war which you craig have shrugged off completly, as of now, any US citzen can be arrested for no reason, can be held with no trial, tortured in the most horrid of ways, including the torture of his or her family members. Which just shows the derange nature of the US. A bit of Sodium Penathal will get you spilling everything you now. So why is torture allowed? Well that is a very good question. As far as the US's propogated perfect humans rights record, it is far from perfect. Everyone should read China's independent Human Rights report on the Human Rights abuses the US has commited. many of these human rights abuses have been commited primarly towards Arab and Muslim Americans, women, African, Americans, and Hispanics.
Programmer Craig, I think Highlander doesn't want the US power to be "unbalanced". She wants somebody to balance it, even if the "balancer" isn't, to say the least, among the best countries in the world. She has earlier expressed such thoughts about Iran. Highlander, of course I have no right to speak for you, please correct me if I'm wrong.
As for myself, I find it worrying that the world depends solely on "Pax Americana" but I don't see another good superpower emerging in the foreseeable future. Perhaps this is impossible because the US influence is very strong and every other country automatically defines itself either as a US ally or as its enemy/rival. Anyway, even if the US hegemony isn't prefect, it is the balancers that make the world suffer, beginning with the Soviet Union. Perhaps, indeed, the USA should concentrate on the most strategic fronts and leave those who complain about its hegemony face to face with the local balancer.
Maya, I worry about US hegemony too. I think most Americans do. We really are an isoloationist nation by nature. I think most AMericans are stunned that we keep getting dragged into global problems that don't (apparrently) have anything at all to do with us, and that people in countries the US has never had any close relationship with think all of their problems are our fault. I was personally hoping that China would emerge as a mature and stable balancing power, even if I don't like their system of government. The Chinese are not generally warlike people. Their problems as an emerging industrialized nation (oil) have caused them to back Iran against the US though, which puts them on a collision course with us. And their inabilty to rein in the protectorate, North Korea, poses a threat to the whole world. And it's China's fault. There wouldn't even be a North Korea today if China hadn't intervened in 1950, the North Koreans were completely defeated. And China is the only thing that has kept the US from doing something about North Korea, these last 55 years. North Korea is 100% China's fault, and nobody else's. If China doesn't do something about it, somebody else will. And that may very well be Japan. And what happens if China tries to do something about Japan, as a result? Japan is not to be trifled with. Theyw ere formiidable opponents in WWII and their economy and technology is world class. Japan could be a major military power in a matter of months.
I don't know. It seems to me if North Korea is allowed to continue as it is going, we're headig for another World War, and maybe the most bloody war ever. North Korea isn't worth that price.
The axis of Evil as per January 2001 was IRAQ, NORTH KOREA, IRAN.
One down. Two to go.
The bearded guy didn't make the cut. Sorry.
That their is exactly why I applaud North Korea and Iran for their decisions to enter the nuclear arms race. Craig just shows the sort of looming terroristic aggresive mindset which the current regime in America has. Over 655,000 iraqis according to a Burnham's study just released today. And the US is still not ready to stop its campaign of bloodshed.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061011/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraqi_death_toll
And its not just the dead which bother me, its the way the living are having to go on. The US is using biological warfare of civilins, they are using depleted uranium of the women and the children, not only do their bombs destroy the lovley nation Iraq once was, not only do their bombs that fall on Neighborhood children destroy generations of iraqis, but the ones that survive, are biologically altered by the weaponry. The few Iraqis who survive will reproduce horridly Disfigured children.
And all of this is a response to that pesky diversion to the war on terror.
God knows what they will do to the "Big Fish" they are going to fry.
Why is Iran labeled a part of the axis of evil by the US?
Iran has never attacked America.
Iran has never instigated a altercation with America.
Why is North korea the axis of evil?
NK has never attacked the US. It is the US who attacked them.
Why is Iraq the Axis of Evil? Saddam never attacked America.
It was America who attacked him on countless occasions, impossed sanctions on him to leave his nation impovershed.
Just becuase these nations refuse to be bullied by you, they are evil?
Thats what the US defenition of evil is right? Refusing to bow down to its Authority?
Who gave the US the right to label these people who keep to themselves and their regions evil?
Who made the US the destroyer of evil?
AND TO TOP THIS OFF
NK, IRAN, IRAQ, DO NOT EVEN BORDER THE US ON TOP OF THAT.
THESE NATIONS ARE ON THE OTHERSIDE OF THE WORLD.
You guys are on the otherside of the world. Isnt that why Andrew Jackson did his best to kill of as many remaing Native Americans as he could, during the infamous trail of tears?
So America would be forever secure from adveseries? So it would not have to be kicked off land which is not their and forced to return to the troubles which plagued the old world ? Well he was succesful, the native men where killed, the women, died with their poor babies frozen in their arms from the harsh cold. But I geuss that was farfrom the end of Americas genocidal killing spree. It killed all of its neigbors so it has to go all the way to the far east to find new people to instigate and pester.
Come on Craig. You have got to see the the moral side of this issue.
On the Pope post you blasted the Europeans for beliving in nothing but science. You stated that you and America have strong religouse belifes.
You have stated many times on this blog that you are a Christian.
Christianity it is a religion of love and compasion, its the religion which teaches you to love your neighbor, and to turn the other cheek. I could understand your stance on the Issue if you where a secular human being who belived in science, and Social Darwanism. But you say you are a man of God. Well I ask you, how can you justify this. When it clearly goes against everything your religion stands for?
How can the Neo-Conservative movement claim to be Christian when its theroies, and stances are based on Social Darwinism? A atheistic theroy and concept which contridict the torah, the bible, the Quran and every other divine word that god has sent down. Every stance on every issue except abortion, gay marriage, and the death penilty, the
neo-conservatives have taken, have been 110% against the teaching of Christianity, and Jesus(PBUH).
I blame all this on the French. They killed NATO in 2003, in favor of the European Union. Well, nobody takes the EUropean Union seriously. Oh well. People did take NATO seriously, but they don't anymore, because the NATO alliance is broken.

ah these "bastard frenchs"...
"Old world" has grown up before you, who are still in adolescence crisis, we know where are the problems, and sure we don't want you to resolve them at your fashion ; Russians are quite civilised nowadays, they do business, something you used to understand
LibyanWarrior you managed to type all that without saying one true thing. You'll have to do better, and I know you can... try again if you want a response, and don't include so many lies. You were educated in teh US which presumably means you haven't gotten the arab version of history unless you went out look for it.
Red, the US hasn't conducted a nuclear test in decades. There's a moratorium on it.
Nomad,
"Old world" has grown up before you
When did that happen?
European behavior is looking pretty infantile from where I'm sitting. Especially France trying to hold on to some of it's old coloinies, such as the Ivory Coast and Lebanon, while at the same time betraying it's savior in WW II :o

we go where we are ask, especially where you can't !
Ivory, Mr Bush wants his chocolate safe, but not enough money to get from this business !
Lebanon, you dream about him, but if you go there, : boom !
Nomad,

Like Indochine? :o

I see :D
Lebanon, you dream about him, but if you go there, : boom !
Same happened to the French troops last time they were there, Nomad. Don't forget.
But anyway... the US has no interest in Lebanon other than destroying Hezbollah for their many terrorist acts and their murder of hundreds of Americans.
We only went there last time to try (unsuccessfully) to keep the peace between Israel and Lebanese/Palestinians.
Kinda like why the French troops are in Lebanon now, isn't it?
Is that mature thinking, Nomad? To do the same thing over and over again and think that you might get different resluts than you did before?
You're right. US troops will never again go to Lebanon, unless their mission is to hunt down and kill Hezbollah. I really wish you success this time Nomad, but don't forget that it was Hezbollah who murdered the Frenchpeacekeepers in 1983.
they are not there to get a revenge but rather cause we felt sorry for the lebanese people, they are friends, not a colony !
Hi Nomad,
they are not there to get a revenge but rather cause we felt sorry for the lebanese people
That's the same reason French, Italian and American peacekeepers were sent to Lebanon during the Civil War when Israel invaded too.
Same reason. I will agree that the French troops are not there for revenge. If American troops went, it would be for revenge. That's why American troops didn't go, and never would. Unless the US decided it was time to put Hezbollah out of business.
they are friends
Friends don't murder friends, Nomad. I don't understand this aspect of French thinking. You (not you buy Frenchies in general) think that America will forgive the broken alliance and it's just some kind of quarrel. I like you, Nomad, but I don't understand French mentality at all. And I don't think the French understand Americans very well either.
Hey, King of Al-Angina, I just heard that Adam Gadahn is being charged with treason for saying the same stuff on television that you say on the internet. Just thought you might wanna know :)
Like Indochine? :o
do you know that our legionnaires were requested (and paid) in Vietnam to get your soldiersin the jungle, apparently you were not in used for difficult missions ?

,
I know, your rightwings politicians speak about "broken alliance", neither did Clinton, or Nixon(a republican)and your Bush will go, and every thing will be as previous Bushits. Love-hate communications, it has always been so, and if you go on liberals blogs you'll see we are appreciated; but, to me, your not really a representative of entire US, your a funny character, interesting for me to watch ; I can easily imagine a whole cartoon with it
We only went there last time to try (unsuccessfully) to keep the peace between Israel and Lebanese/Palestinians.
lol. The last time you went their you where droping off cluster Bombs for israel to use. Please craig, do not make your involvment in Lebonan seem as if it where some sort of
"Peace Keeping mission".
"Hey, King of Al-Angina, I just heard that Adam Gadahn is being charged with treason for saying the same stuff on television that you say on the internet. Just thought you might wanna know :)"
1. Its King Of Al-Andalus
2.
If Adam(a known orthodox jew) is saying or taking any position which are rometly close to the ones i have stated and taken.
Well I geuss that makes him a hypocrite.
Joining a organization which works for the US government and shares the same type of social darwanistic ideology. Is a action which totally contridicts the words , thoughts, ideas, and stances which i state, and hold.
Nomad,
do you know that our legionnaires were requested (and paid) in Vietnam to get your soldiersin the jungle, apparently you were not in used for difficult missions ?
There weren't even any Americans in Vietnam when you lost at Dien Bien Phu, and lost your colony. We went in years later. But when General Võ Nguyên Giáp tried to repeat his success against you guys at Dien Bien Phu, he got his head handed to him.
iege of Khe Sahn
Americans from all walks of life saw the desperation of American forces as supplies were literally dropped onto the air-strip at Khe Sanh, with the occasional plane exploding from enemy fire. They also saw Operation Niagara, where 18,000 tons of ammunition were dropped each day in the jungle surrounding the base. The total American causalities would be 205 killed, while the North Vietnamese would loose between ten to fifteen- thousand. Khe Sanh would prove a military victory for the American forces, a psychological victory for the North Vietnamese.
So, I'd be careful about claims of the "difficulty" that French troops were accustomed to, that US troops were not.
Just out of curiousity, can you document your claims that French troops were in Vietnam to instruct American troops? Specifically, US Marines... since it was US Marines who had responsibilty for the are near the DMZ.
I've worked with teh Foreign Legion, Nomad, and I have a lot of respect for them. But most of them are not French, and (unfortunately) they are a very SMALL part of the French Military.
I know, your rightwings politicians speak about "broken alliance", neither did Clinton, or Nixon(a republican)and your Bush will go, and every thing will be as previous Bushits.
You're wrong, Nomad. It's not what politicians are saying, this time. It's what Americans are saying. Look at some of the public opinion polls. France tops the list of disliked countries. Isn't that a truly remarkable thing, that our supposed ally, France, is disliked by Americans more than our deadliest enemies? I don't think it's going away. French people (not just you I've heard ir from others) think it's just a spat. That's what I mean when I say I don't think we understand each other.
Love-hate communications, it has always been so, and if you go on liberals blogs you'll see we are appreciated;
If you mean leftists, you need to know that's maybe 5% of our population you claim supports you.
but, to me, your not really a representative of entire US,
Of course I'm not. What I am representative of, is a fairly moderate Libertarian, which is what I am. We're a pretty big chunk of teh Republican party. The chuck at the LEFT of everyone else, closer to teh middle than other republicans :)
your a funny character, interesting for me to watch ; I can easily imagine a whole cartoon with it
Thank you, glad to be of service :P
Nomad, your statement that "Russians are quite civilized nowadays" would probably come as a surprise to some people inside Russia.
I invite you to see the last post on my blog, by chance it is relevant.
when your medias say "we are the evil", then american folk say , "yes they are evil", and when times change, another manager comes to the place and say " i love the frenchs" then your folk will cheer up, I used to work with americans, "french cruises", it was funny for us to watch how your folk obbey to their conscience manager, or cruise responsible, like children, cause we are the opposite !
for the rest, I'll respond later (work)
Dien dien phu, was the last french bravoure act in Viet nam, and these soldiers were abandonned there by our government who had already independence in mind
the french legion was not in vietnam to teach americans but in Komando mission to fetch wounded or lost american soldiers
A legionnaire, who has yet a builder enterprise and who worked for me, told me he was there, and these sorts of mission are not spread in the media, they are secret services !
by the ways, the legionnaires are ment to be foreigners, but in a certain percentage, lot of frenchs are there with a foreign name, cause when they get in, they are supposed to have a new family
Maya,
i know, this was well related in our medias, and our government did protest too, as far as my allegations for business, it is true, an enterprise here in my place is owned by Russians from St Petersburg, and they are quite good in managing it !
OK guys and gals. Here is the absolutely essential link on this topic. Enjoy!

As a individual hailing from North Africa and coming from a country with a strong Arab backround I am deeply offended by the racial , ethnic, and cultural prejudices in the link which you posted Curt from houston. the link was islamophboic, and harshly anti-semetic. I would ask you to please refrain from posting such ignorant, bigoted, anti-semtic, propoganda videos, which inacuratly portray Muslims especially those of Arab decent as "enemies of the united states", and "terrorists". I would also like to remind you that the video is equally offensive to Asian Americans.
Thank you
-The Libyan Warrior
"I am deeply offended by the racial , ethnic, and cultural prejudices in the link which you posted Curt from houston."
Oh please LW, it's funny as hell! Don't you have just a little bit of a sense of humor? The video slams Americans right along with Arabs and North Koreans. Lighten up will ya! It's satire for crying out loud!
I'll answer Barrie back in his/her own words.
"It seems so simple to claim that United States & Britain have the right to defend not only themselves but the entire world from so-called terrorist & unfriendly regimes that pose an immediate danger to the democracy and freedom, but is that to defend the people of these poor nations or it's oil interests? Given the fact that United States & Britain have little regard for the life and freedom of the people of it's own allied countries (saudi Arabia, Morocco, actually the list is so long that I won't bother writing the names of all the nations), how can you place your faith in them caring about those in other nations. Pls take off the anti-terrorism blinkers for a second and actually look at the situation and it's effect on Afghanistan, Iraq and the entire continents of Africa, Asia, Middle-East & South America. Spain has realised this too late."
