Technical difficulties...

It has been brought to my attention that some of you were experiencing difficulties in accessing the comment section. Until yesterday Saturday, I was able to use the comment section, and it does not seem like Blogger are doing any maintenance on their site, but I had been getting some spam lately so that may have been the cause . Anyway I have reset and republished the whole template to try and get around this bug and apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Also some of you have been getting pop-up ads when loading the blog . I don't know how that happened either as I have no commercial ads on my site at all, and I'm not sure if it depends on which browser you use. Programmer_Craig who first noticed this suggested it might be because of my "make poverty history" banner, I'm not sure it is because of that as there were no problems before ..but I'm going to do my best to trace this thing and eliminate it , if I need to remove the banner I'll just have to do it.

In the meantime, please all be patient , stick around and don't be discouraged.

I use firefox, but still getting the pop up.

I also use Firefox and I get the popup, I didn't see it in Opera. Maybe it's just a Firefox security issue? Looks strange also, not a browser window, but some kind of custom control.

I tried to comment as Anonymous as usual but that option was removed. I mistakenly thought that our moderator Highlander disabled it. My apology for jumping to that very natural conclusion. Will continue my big mouth blasts. So bear with me please my friends.

try using google it seems to block most of the popups trying to appear

Not sure what you mean, google, Alan? Does google have a browser?

Hmmm.... disabled Java, in Firefox, and the popup is gone. Hopefully, Java being turned off won't cause me any other problems :)

OK, it's a Java Script... not Java per se... and if I disable Javascripts I can't use Haloscan commenting. Not sure why this only happens in Firefox, but there doesn't seem to be a way to fix it with 1.5 beta 2 - at least that I can find. It doesn't count as a popup window, so popup blockers don't catch it. Is there a way to limit what Java scripts can do, in Firefox?

<--- Firefox newbie here

BTW, about half the time it's not an add, it's an offer to perform a registry scan, which I consider pretty malicious - not a harmless popup at all!

Found the culprit:

http://cdn.fastclick.net/adserver.com/10002/swo/mid887/regcleangif.gif

That's a media link in your blog page. I'm looking (in the CSS) for where exactly it's getting loaded from now.

This is fun... almost like programming :p

Here's another link associated with that graphic in your template:

http://z1.adserver.com/w/cp.x;rid=102;tid=2;ev=2;ac=29;mid=887

Whee....

This is the function call that creates and displays the window (which is actually a Java execuatble program, not a browser window!):

Ads_PopUp()

Then he does a bunch of crap based on what the user did with the window.

His info from code comments:

// Falk AdSolution - Copyright (c) 2004 by Falk eSolutions AG - All rights reserved (Build: 00000050-2)

Lets find this guy and kill him. I volunteer. Not sure if I'm kidding or not. Maybe we could just send him to Falluja as a foreign aid worker?

OK... no more looking at his java code for me... these two lines appear at the end of your CSS file:

http://mag20s.akakestrel.com/lnight.html
http://z1.adserver.com/w/cp.x;rid=102;tid=2;ev=1;dt=3;ac=29;c=762;;nc=1

They are WAY at the end, and appear together. I assume they were added at the same time. If you can deleter the one for the add server, the java applet annoyance should be gone.

For those of you who aren't seeing it, it does this:

Registry Cleaner
