Slumber party yay ! -Updated

I shall not be online this evening and most of tomorrow ( for those who miss me too much you can phone ). I'm having an all girls slumber party ! Several of my cousins and second cousins are meeting for a barbecue and sleepover at E's place.

Haven't done that since my university days or the last time a close friend got married, when we used to end up at 4.00 am in the kitchen preparing 3assida. Basically a thickly cooked dough which is moved to the center of a plate after it is cooked and covered with either date syrup and olive oil or honey and butter ( according to your taste). I prefer the former and if anyone wants to volunteer a recipe please do so :).

This should be fun, sitting in the garden under the grape and jasmine trees, eating, drinking Libyan tea, watching DVDs, probably a spot of belly dancing lol, talking girlie stuff and not forgetting gurma Libyan style ( that's gossip for the non-initiated).

But I'm sure you guys will be busy in the comment section, and if you don't find anything that tickles your fancy, there are the wonderful links on the side bar.

Of course I am very much curious about your own slumber parties in your countrie ladies and gentlemen and if you wish to describe the best one ever do not hesitate to do so :) .

Update 16-9-06

Party was great - this was the menue :)

Coffee -tea- biscuits and lots of gossip
BBQ in the garden till midnight - loud girlie voices - conversation about hizbollah , sex and men . ( in that order)
Moving to main bedroom- music -DVDs - pillow fight ( yes I know pretty regressive)- belly dancing ( yes I can still do it) till 2 am
Then drinking cocoa and sweets - more intimate girl talk ( what else about men again )
I fell asleep at 4 am and they were still having fun.
Participants ? 7 ladies , one married, one divorced and 3 single + one grandmother he he he

And no you are not getting a photo of Highlander in her pajamas !

The last time I had a sleepover was a few weeks ago for my friend's bachlorette party.Everybody had a great time. I pretended to teach them belly dancing even though I am very bad at it. I missed sitting in the garden under jasmine trees though. I didn't have that. All I had was the cat running all over the place :)No assida either.

We use butter , or a hot spicy tomato sauce. Do you have assida zgougou also?

probably a spot of belly dancing lol

Can I request a belly danicnp post for Friday then? :)

I guess the last time I had a sleepover was right before I got out of the Marines, but it wasn't much like what you describe :)

Seriously, though, the way you do it doesn't sound much different than American style. Except for the belly dancing :D

Yes that too, Leilouta! I didn't forget, I was being politically correct :)

Redenclave :) oggling guys is a delicious hobby I admit ...

Maya in Libya we use both green tea and black tea ( which we call red) - by Libyan I met the method of boiling it which has a set of rules- maybe I'll make a short post about it :)

Leilouta ;) I bet you had fun at your sleepover too eh, no we don't have assida zgougou and I would love to try one day. Maybe on my next trip to Tunis I'll ask my friend to do it for me ...

Programmer_Craig ;) - we are now well aware of your belly dancing fetish lol- what do you think a belly dancing post would include ? ;)
hmm now I'm curious at marines sleepover.. what do you guys do? hit each other with the pillows ?! I just had a mental image of marines belly dancing ..:P

Hey, just because I like watching wome belly dancing doesn't make me a pervert now :P

Not so much like that. Do you want to hear about the sleepovers in the troop berthing areas on the assault ships or the ones sleeping in the dirt out in the middle of nowhere? :O

BBQ in the garden till midnight - loud girlie voices

Oh, I know all about that! I made the mistake of making a comment about my ex and her friends that included the words "cackling hens" once! But never again :)

conversation about hizbollah , sex and men . ( in that order)

One of those three items doesn't seem to belong with the other! I'm not even sure which I should be asking about? The consensus about Hezbollah or the attitudes of Libyan women towards sex?

I guess I'd rather hear about the sex bits :)

And no you are not getting a photo of Highlander in her pajamas !

:O

Hahahaaa!! Let me describe what passes for a pajama party among American adult males. Come on Craig! It goes something like this.

It's Saturday morning, the day of the big college football game. You've invited about eight or ten of your best buddies over for a day of testosterone driven over eating and heavy drinking. The steaks on the grill are big enough to eat you. Either the cooler is packed to the brim with some premium beer, or you've dispensed with the cooler altogether and just had a fifty gallon keg delivered. Maybe both.

You've arranged for the significant other to be elsewhere and the kids are safely ensconced at the grand parent’s house. Let the debauchery begin. Your now poised for an entire day of whooping, yelling, posturing and betting, at least while the game lasts. At the end, everyone is well on the way to hammerville. The winners celebrate with more rounds of beer drinking while the losers are drowning their sorrows with a similar round of drinks.

The first casualty usually occurs around seven o’clock in the evening. By midnight, it's down to two or three of you sitting around reliving the glory days. Whatever those were. Your house now resembles a battle field with dead soldiers sprawled wherever they fell. Another successful game day under the belt.

The next morning, your at first afraid your going to die. Then your afraid your not. Your significant other has returned and evacuated the causalities. Mercifully, she allows you to wallow on the couch in your well deserved misery. By dinner time you are actually starting to feel pretty good again and telling significant other what a great time you had and Wow!, I can't wait until the next big game on New Years day.

Craig, does that perhaps sound a little more familiar.

Had trouble posting this. Apologize in advance for a double post.

OK, here's a teaser for Ann Coulter from her web site. You really need to read her editorials posted there. Disagree with everything she says if you must, but I think it will provide you with an invaluable perspective on the Ameircan Right.

Ann Coulter is the author of five New York Times bestsellers —Godless: The Church of Liberalism (June 2006),How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must)(October, 2004), Treason: Liberal Treachery From the Cold War to the War on Terrorism (June 2003); Slander: Liberal Lies About the American Right (June 2002); and High Crimes and Misdemeanors:The Case Against Bill Clinton (August 1998).

Coulter is the legal correspondent for Human Events and writes a popular syndicated column for Universal Press Syndicate. She is a frequent guest on many TV shows, including Hannity and Colmes, Wolf Blitzer Reports, At Large With Geraldo Rivera, Scarborough Country, HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher, The O'Reilly Factor, Good Morning America and has been profiled in numerous publications, including TV Guide, the Guardian (UK), the New York Observer, National Journal, Harper's Bazaar, and Elle magazine, among others. She was named one of the top 100 Public Intellectuals by federal judge Richard Posner in 2001.

Coulter clerked for the Honorable Pasco Bowman II of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and was an attorney in the Department of Justice Honors Program for outstanding law school graduates.

After practicing law in private practice in New York City, Coulter worked for the Senate Judiciary Committee, where she handled crime and immigration issues for Senator Spencer Abraham of Michigan. From there, she became a litigator with the Center For Individual Rights in Washington, DC, a public interest law firm dedicated to the defense of individual rights with particular emphasis on freedom of speech, civil rights, and the free exercise of religion.

A Connecticut native, Coulter graduated with honors from Cornell University School of Arts & Sciences, and received her J.D. from University of Michigan Law School, where she was an editor of The Michigan Law Review.

And finally Michelle:

About

I began my career in newspaper journalism more than a decade ago as an editorial writer and columnist for the Los Angeles Daily News (1992-94). Covered school board meetings and pole sign ordinances. Exposed Rep. Maxine Waters' gang-infested job-training center boondoggle. Received a death threat from the Mexican mafia. Moved to the Pacific Northwest and worked at the Seattle Times from 1996 to 1999. Wrote editorials supporting a repeal of the death tax. Opposed editorial board on everything else. Exposed Gov. Gary Locke's Buddhist temple cash connections. Opposed publisher and supported successful campaign to abolish race-based affirmative action in government hiring, contracting, and college admissions. Quit job and moved to Washington, D.C.

My column, now syndicated by Creators Syndicate, appears in nearly 200 newspapers nationwide. My first book, Invasion: How America Still Welcomes Terrorists, Criminals, and Other Foreign Menaces to Our Shores (Regnery 2002), and second book In Defense of Internment were New York Times bestsellers.

She's talking about LibyanWarrior there, Curt :D

Dunno how somebody let his famnily in but that situation has got to be rectified. He is the prime example in my mind of the failures of the Department of Homeland Security.

They must have sliped past in the airport while the security folks were buisy strip searching that eighty year old granny in the wheel chair.

Craig and Curt , LW said in earlier comments on this blog that he was born in the USA . His parents had emigrated there. So he did not slip through any net and I'm sure his parents are not terrorists.

programmer craig said...

Actually, Highlander, I'm sure theyb aren't terrorists too. I was thinking more about this:

and Other Foreign Menaces

He hates America. He absolutely LOATHES it. I don't think he developed those opinions on his own. I think he learned these attitudes from his parents. So I still question how it is that we allowed people who hate ourt country so much to come here. I'd feel the same way if he was Hispanic or European or Chinese or anything else. The line is long, and the applicants are endless - Libyan Warrior's parents were allowed to come here, and I personally have known many more worthy people who wanted to come to America for good reasons, and were denied a place.
